In today’s society, we are so often in a competition with each other. Who had a rougher day? Who got less sleep? Whose toddler threw the most tantrums? We are always trying to one up each other on the negative aspects, and not the positive.
What if we changed our mindset and instead of always being in a competition with each other about the negative aspects of our life, we were always sharing the positives? How do you think that would change our outlook and the outlook of others.
I understand that as moms, we all have rough days. Which means we all need to vent every now and then. I learned a little trick when I was a teacher. My principal told us to have one other teacher at the school to vent to. One that we trusted. We didn’t need to spread all of our negative feelings around the whole school. I apply that to motherhood. I have one or two special mom friends I vent to if I am having a rough day but other than that, I try to keep it to myself and remember that just because I’m having a bad day doesn’t mean other mamas are, so there is no point in venting day in and day out.
Motherhood is a tough job, but it’s the best job. Yes it’s exhausting but it’s also fulfilling. I think the fulfillment I get from being a mama to my little girl far outweighs the negatives that come with it, but it’s all about the mindset we have.
So can you change your mindset? Can you begin to spread positivity and see how that changes your day?
