I’m a book junkie, and since I’m a parent, reading lots of books is the activity I miss the most!
As a transformational nutrition coach, I find myself recommending the same books over and over to my clients because some of them seriously changed my life, and I know they can help other moms too.
I finally decided to make a compilation of my top 10 books for every new mom to read. I divided them into 3 categories: self-development, nutrition and parenting.
“You’re A Badass” by Jen Sincero
Are you struggling with self-doubt? As a new parent, I know I was! You don’t think you’re doing enough, you know enough or are enough…. This book will help you reclaim your power again. Super fun read!
“A return to love” by Marianne Williamson
Marianne is my spiritual guru :) This book will uplift your spirit in a big way. Choosing love is a simple message, one that will penetrate deep into your core after reading this book.
“You Can Heal Your Life” by Louise Hay
If you were looking for one book to summarize a holistic approach to healing, this would be it! “You Can Heal Your Life” is packed with wonderful wisdom and practical tools to self-discovery and self-healing.
“Deep Nutrition” by Catherine Shanahan
Catherine Shanahan explains that the answer to the perfect human diet is in healthy fats, very little sugar, and a variety of high quality foods from each of the “four pillars”. She describes the four pillars of a human diet to be: meat on the bone, fermented and sprouted foods, organ meats, and fresh, pure plant and animal products.
I absolutely recommend you read "Deep Nutrition". It helped me understand what a healthy diet is and how transformative making the change to a traditional diet can be.
“Feeding You Lies” by Vana Hari
A very eye-opening book describing the ugly truth about processed packaged foods and the American food industry. You will never look at food the same way again! Her first book “The Food Babe Way” is wonderful as well, including lots of healthy and delicious recipes.
“In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto” by Micheal Pollan
This is Micheal Pollan basic eating rule: “Could my grandmother find this ingredient? If so, then I can eat it.” Pretty simple, right? It’s a small change that will make a big difference in your life (and what you feed your little one).
“French Kids Eat Everything” by Karen Le Billon
This is an absolute must read for any parent of a picky eater. Because I’m French, I’m obviously a little biased on that one ;) I believe having a picky eater actually has nothing to do with the kid, but how you parent the kid. This book will help you raise a healthy eater.
“Stop Parenting: One Helicopter Mom's Life-Changing Transformation” by Karen R.Tolchin and Kyle Mercer
I love, love, love this book! I read it more than one time. If parenting gives you a lot of anxiety, the wise words from life coach Kyle Mercer will bring you a lot of comfort. I worked with Kyle Mercer in person and I can’t say enough praise about his coaching method. Transformative.
“Positive discipline” by Jane Nelsen
A friend of ours, who is a teacher, offered us this book when our son was around 1 year old. I can’t thank her enough! We learned all the best parenting advice from this book.
“Oh Crap! Potty Training” by Jamie Glowacki
I’m constantly hearing horror stories about potty training. But it doesn’t have to be a struggle. I read this book after my son turned 2. I was spending the winter in NY at the time and there was a snow storm announced for the weekend. Since we were going to spend a lot of time indoors, I decided this was the time to potty train. No joke: my son was potty trained in a weekend thanks to this book.
So, mama, take the kids to the pool, have dad (or someone else) supervise, and grab yourself one of these gems! You won’t be disappointed, I promise. Then come back here and please share your favorite one ;)
